field beyond 45.jpg

Rumi, the poet and mystic, spoke of a “field” beyond wrong-doing and right-doing - a place where we could meet, and achieve amazing things because of the great connection that might happen there. His words evoke a sense of what might be possible in that field and where our relentless habit of breaking things up and separating them, might give way to a totally different place, where we look for and value wholeness and connection.

Field Beyond Facilitation is all about creating that possibility - not as some naive ideal - but by using great facilitation and processes which help people to speak up and hear across their differences, working together in truly collaborative ways. It was Albert Einstein who said that we cannot solve our problems with the same thinking that created them. We are now at that place and time on this planet, where we have no choice but to think and act altogether differently, if we are to create a truly regenerative world that aligns with the forces of life on our home, Earth.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

CONNECTION

The power of connection is so under-rated, and yet when we connect with others, a willingness to work well together awakens. . But equalising power dynamics and giving everyone the opportunity  to participate doesn't happen by luck.  It takes really artful facilitation.  If we know how to create an environment where people feel safe, and feel heard and valued, then we have created a space where they can start to step in and participate more fully.  Creating these kind of environments takes skill and care.  It takes self-awareness and an ability to manage our own personal biases and inner triggers and reactions to others so that we remain connected.

RESILIENCE

Emotional resilience is the capacity to be ‘bold’ - to speak up, to share our ideas, take risks and use our full potential. Emotionally resilient people have the strength to appropriately respond to workplace pressures and challenges and are able to create and nourish robust, collaborative relationships. For true collaboration to happen, people need to have this resilience, something that can be learned and practiced.   True collaboration requires people to be able to work with conflict with an open heart and mind while knowing that their own reactions can be part of the problem.  People willing to work in this space are able to let go of their personal needs in favour of being of service to the group.

TRANSFORMATION

So what’s needed, what’s missing, where’s the pain and disconnect, and how do you reconnect with people in your workplace in productive ways?  Field Beyond Facilitation offers a different way of working that ends the idea that we need to see the world through a lens of wrong and right and instead asks the question: How do we encourage the inherent differences of people to be expressed so that we understand difference as a strength and something we want to go looking for?
